Speaker: Matt Jones - Trial Attorney, Liskow & Lewis
Topic: “Legal Risks of an Oil & Gas Well from Cradle to Grave"

Risk is at the heart of the energy business — it’s woven into the very fabric of the industry and often what drives its most successful players. In contrast, insurers specialize in understanding, managing, and pricing risk in ways that allow them to maintain balance and predictability.
Matt Jones, an experienced oil and gas lawyer, will guide you through the full life cycle of hydrocarbons — from their discovery deep underground to their eventual use as fuel. At each stage, he will highlight the key legal risks that emerge along the way.
The goal is to provide underwriters with a clearer understanding of the industry’s legal landscape, enabling them to assess risk more accurately and craft cost effective insurance solutions tailored to the energy sector.

About the Speaker: Matt Jones is the grandson of a driller and the son of an offshore wireline operator, raised in the oil patch beneath the glow of gas flares. For 36 years, he has worked across every phase of the oil and gas industry. He graduated first in his class from the Louisiana State University Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.
Matt’s practice spans nearly every oil- and gas-producing state, as well as matters in Asia and West Africa, encompassing the full industry lifecycle—from exploration and production to midstream, refining, and marketing. He is also the co-host of the Oil and Gas This Week podcast, which has been downloaded on every continent except Antarctica.
When not working or spending time with his cherished wife and children, you will find him immersed in the very latest news concerning his beloved LSU Tigers football team.
